Qt C++ Warsaw Meetup - retrospective

“21 August 2025 –What a night! Somco Software organized a Qt C++ Warsaw meetup and [dot, dot, dot]”*

*-This somewhat strange introduction is a reference to a well-known musical. I wonder if you can guess which one 😉

Introduction

Welcome back to our blog. Today’s post is dedicated to the recently organized Qt C++ Warsaw Meetup event. If you want to be stayed informed about future events and online webinars, sign up to our Group on meetup.com. There will be more!

I am writing this article about a month after the event, and I am still under the influence of the extraordinary emotions we experienced. I would like to thank everyone who came, and if anyone couldn’t make it, (it’s a great pity, of course :p ), but I am sure that they simply must come to the next edition!

It was nice to see so many people!

I will write a lot more about the event itself, but I thought it would be nice if, while reading this post, you could see how it looked through Somco’s eyes: where the idea came from, how we prepared for it, etc. I think this perspective is fascinating. So let’s step into the time machine and begin.

Idea behind it

Let us begin with how the idea for this event came about. Those who follow our blog and our company’s activities know that we have been involved with Qt technology from the very beginning. At the moment, Somco Software is one of the largest companies that constantly use Qt framework, and we are very lively in the community. What’s more, we were even the first Polish company to receive the official status of Qt Service Partner – for the uninitiated, this means that Qt Group itself appreciates our expertise and we work together on various projects.

As we strive to engage with the community, Somco Software’s representatives often attend local Qt community events in various countries, sometimes spending long hours on the road (every hour is worth it).

Of course, the biggest event bringing together Qt fans is the Qt World Summit, but it only happens once a year, which does not satisfy our hunger. And while local events are great, unfortunately, they are often quite small in scale, and the events themselves are abroad, and sometimes it is difficult to find the time.

So we thought: Why not do something similar in Poland? But with a bang! Not only that, but it was perfect timing as Somco was celebrating its 5th birthday! All the signs in the sky indicated that it was the perfect moment. So we started preparations.

Preparations

Okay, first the dates: here, simply so that it coincides with Somco’s birthday + the end of the holidays, so most people will have more free time on projects and will be able to find the time. Perfect. Now the question is, how to prepare it?

We started by contacting our business partners and Qt Company, who eagerly agreed to patronize the event (love you!). Then, the marketing department got to work. We announced the event on our website, LinkedIn profile, and in our newsletter. Then we created an event on the Meetup website where anyone could sign up. It certainly helped that the event was free and open to everyone.

All right, we have a date, everyone knows about the event, but what will happen there? This is where our business contacts came in handy, because in no time at all we gathered a group of people willing to give presentations.

Then it was time to book the venue, catering, lighting, sound system, etc. Believe me, it was a lot of work. Since it was our first time organizing such an event, we had many concerns: what if no one comes? What if we order too little/too much food and drink? What if we say something stupid? It may sound silly, but believe me, the day before, we were consumed by emotions.

Not only that, but we also decided to present our demos showing our capabilities. And, often the case with this type of event, a few things had to be fixed at the last minute, but we fixed them in no time!

Real test

And finally, the day arrived. The Somco team worked hard from early morning to set everything up, move things around, organize and bring in everything needed.

Before the official start of the event, another great thing took place. Together with Qt Company, we organized the opportunity to take the official Qt exam. What’s more, it was free and even before the official announcement of the exams. It was a unique opportunity. Even I took the exam myself (I already had a certificate, but from the ‘previous’ form of the exams, so it was a great opportunity to refresh my knowledge).

Then the actual event began. And I can say with a clear conscience that attendance was high, with over 100 people! Most of them were C++ and Qt programmers, but there were also people from the medical, automotive, and industrial sectors, which allowed everyone to exchange experiences and insights. For us, it was an opportunity not only to make new acquaintances, but also to showcase our company to potential candidates. So if you are interested in working at Somco, we are currently recruiting.

The event itself started with reflective and inspiring introduction by Lukas Kosiński – CEO of Somco Software about how we keep better and better in developing Qt, C++ projects and about deepening our expertise in embedded software development.

Then there was a series of interesting presentations (of course, the presentation by our CTO, Adam, was the best!) that provided a lot of useful knowledge.

Here is the list of all presentations:

  • Filip Sajdak (siili_auto) – Cursor IDE for C++: Useful AI Assistant or Overrated Hype?
  • Alexandra Betouni (Extenly) – From Messy to Maintainable: Keeping Your QML in Top Shape
  • Tomasz Soldat – Display and Touch Interface in the Industrial Kitchen: Serving Up the Perfect HMI Panel (Riverdi)
  • Adam Sowa (Scythe Studio) – Mastering Multithreading Without Losing Your Mind
  • Maycon Stamboroski (Qt Group) – Qt Roadmap

At the end there was an after party during which we discussed many topics over a pint of cold wheat beer 😉

Ending and … see you soon!

In our opinion, the event was victorious. Everything went smoothly in terms of organization, attendance exceeded our expectations, and what is more, we received a lot of positive feedback. If you are interested in future meetings, dont forget to add yourself to Qt Poland meetup group.

The draft idea is to have one before the end of 2025 and the next one in Q1 2026.

The conclusion is simple. See you soon.
